The complaint filed against Salman Khan alleged that his endorsement of Rajshree Elaichi was, in reality, a surrogate advertisement intended to promote pan masala products. The complainant argued that such advertising practices are misleading in nature and violate the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, which prohibits deceptive advertisements that can misinform consumers.
According to the complaint, although Rajshree Elaichi is marketed as a mouth freshener, the branding and promotional strategy closely resemble that of Rajshree Pan Masala. This similarity allegedly creates an indirect association, encouraging consumers to link the two products, thereby serving as a backdoor promotion for pan masala—an area subject to stricter advertising regulations.
